KOS: SERBIA AMONG COUNTRIES MOST ALIGNED WITH EU LAW

BRUSSELS, NOVEMBER 4 /SRNA/ – Serbia is among the candidate countries most closely aligned with EU law and well prepared for the bloc's single market and competitiveness, EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos said.

Speaking at a news conference, Kos said she hoped Serbia's new government would make progress on the path to EU membership.

She noted that accession talks had stalled over the past year and that, in the Commission's view, Serbia must do more on human rights and academic freedom.

"Serbia has a chance for a fresh start. The new authorities have an opportunity to turn the page, strengthen democratic institutions and fundamental rights, and take new steps on Serbia's path to the European Union," Kos said.
