BIJELJINA, OCTOBER 1 /SRNA/ – An Ottoman attempt to cross the Drina River into Serbia and crush the Serbian uprising failed on October 2, 1810.
Around 30,000 Ottoman troops advanced from occupied Bosnia during the First Serbian Uprising, seeking to take advantage of the reduced Serbian military presence along the Drina, while the bulk of Serbian forces were fighting near Varvarin, Deligrad and Sokobanja.
The Ottoman forces shelled Loznica for 12 days but failed to capture it. When Serbian leader Đorđe Petrović Karađorđe arrived with reinforcements, he defeated the Ottoman troops and drove them out of Serbia.
