INVESTIGATION INTO SPONSORSHIP CONTRACTS AT FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION

ZAGREB, SEPTEMBER 21 /SRNA/ - The Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organized Crime /USKOK/ has launched an investigation into sponsorship contracts at the Croatian Football Association.

The investigation concerns allegedly unlawful commission payments to people within the Association for major sponsorship contracts for which they took credit. According to Croatian media reports, the individuals in question are reportedly senior Association officials.

The Croatian Football Association said that representatives of the competent authorities had requested documentation several months ago as part of checks they were conducting at other national sports federations as well.

They stressed that this followed the discovery of irregularities in the work of one national sports federation.

A series of scandals in Croatian sport began after more than EUR 100,000 in cash was found on an employee of the Croatian Ski Association during a check at a border crossing.
