BELGRADE, JULY 17 /SRNA/ - In the crypt of the Church of Saint Sava in Belgrade, in front of the monumental fresco of the saint, the opening and closing scenes featuring His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porfirije were filmed today for a documentary film and series about the first Serbian enlightener and archbishop, Saint Sava.

The series about Saint Sava is being produced with the blessing of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, in cooperation with the brotherhood of Hilandar Monastery, and is directed by Željko Mirković.

Through his words, the Patriarch expressed deep devotion to the founder of the independent Serbian Church and the most significant figure in the history of the Serbian people.

So far, exclusive interviews with the abbots and monks of the Holy Mountain monasteries of Hilandar, Vatopedi, Stari Rusik, and the Paterica hermitage have been filmed, as well as treasures from the Hilandar treasury that have previously been unknown to the wider public.

Magnificent footage has been captured by drones and multiple cameras at locations in Serbia, BiH, Montenegro, Dalmatia, Mount Athos, Jerusalem, Turkey, Mount Sinai, Bulgaria and the United States, the Serbian Orthodox Church said in a statement.
