DR GUDELJ: GENERAL MLADIĆ WAS KILLED BY DOCTORS’ INACTION IN THE HAGUE

BELGRADE, SEPTEMBER 4 /SRNA/ - Dr Ognjen Gudelj, a member of General Ratko Mladić's medical team, said that the general was killed as a result of the failure of doctors and medical staff at the detention hospital in Scheveningen to act.

Gudelj said that when a person with a heart condition is not having their blood pressure measured daily and kidney function tests are not performed despite the presence of renal insufficiency, this constitutes de facto murder.

"If you do not do that for a month, it is a deliberate and premeditated killing. If you do not give him medication for diabetes when he is diabetic, that is murder," Gudelj stressed at a press conference in Belgrade.

He said this also applied to the situation in which doctors in The Hague did not allow doctors in Serbia to access the general's laboratory test results.

"To quote them, they said, `Well, you see, we decided not to perform laboratory tests on him because we wanted to spare him the pain!?`" Gudelj said.

He added that it was difficult to listen to all this and endure being treated like a fool when speaking to a diabetes specialist.

"She said, `Well, you see, we decided to stop giving him his diabetes medication.` At that moment, you realize that the situation has become extremely serious and that there is no time left," Dr Gudelj said.

He also provided further details which, he said, confirm that General Mladić was effectively killed through the failure of doctors and medical staff in The Hague to act.
