BANJA LUKA, OCTOBER 27 /SRNA/ - Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts /SANU/ member Kosta Čavoški believes that, following the "Student List" victory in Serbia's early parliamentary elections, the leadership of Republika Srpska should show the utmost restraint, while also expressing confidence that mutual relations will remain as good as before.

Čavoški says he is not entirely sure about the "Student List's" policies, since it is too early to talk about them, but he fears that "they will pursue a pro-European, pro-Brussels and anti-Serb policy".

"Republika Srpska should behave as if Serbia's policy towards it will not change, at least until such changes become visible. So Srpska's statesmen should continue to stress that they are working to keep relations between Srpska and Serbia as good as before," Čavoški told SRNA.

He said Serbs in Republika Srpska are familiar with the policy that seeks to have "Serbs under one state roof", but noted that this "never even crossed the minds of the students or their mentors".

"And as you can see, they have hinted at a policy that, in my view, is not entirely national - that they will not make an effort to strengthen ties between Republika Srpska and Serbia. No one has said that publicly yet, but assessing their future intentions is another matter," Čavoški said.

He said the situation is not entirely clear at the moment, but everything will become clear soon, adding that this "depends most of all on the factors in Brussels that decide everything, and on certain advisers in Serbia who advise the leading figures of the `Student Movement`".

Čavoški said the "Student List" must also bear in mind the saying that he who pays the piper calls the tune.

He said Aleksandar Vučić, who headed the "United Serbia" list, was defeated in these elections because he "established autocracy", although, as he put it, he should, among other things, "answer for high treason regarding Kosovo and Metohija".
