BIJELJINA, APRIL 15 /SRNA/ – The city of Belgrade was first mentioned in written documents on April 16, 878.

Pope John VIII sent a letter to the Bulgarian Prince Boris, informing him of the dismissal of the eunuch Sergius from the position of Bishop of Belgrade.

The original of this document is kept in the Vatican archives, which became available to the public in this region in the 1990s.

Since then, Singidunum, founded by the Celts in the 4th century BC, has been known as Belgrade.
