BELGRADE, OCTOBER 28 /SRNA/ - Israeli Ambassador to Serbia Avivit Bar-Ilan said the attack outside the embassy in Belgrade is a threat to peace and security, and called for a thorough investigation to establish who is behind the horrific act.
Bar-Ilan said the embassy staff were deeply disturbed and shocked by last night's terrorist attack, and that Serbia's caretaker Interior Minister Ivica Dačić had assured her the case would be thoroughly investigated.
She reminded that this is the second terrorist attack on the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade in the past two years, and expressed her deepest gratitude and appreciation to the Serbian Gendarmerie and its officer, whose brave act and decisive response prevented even worse bloodshed and more serious consequences, Tanjug reported.
"We wish him a full recovery," Bar-Ilan said.
She said all embassy staff are safe and well, and thanked all the friends who have been sending messages of support and solidarity since this morning.
After an on-site investigation, the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade said a minor, believed to be from Šabac, shouting "Allahu Akbar", attacked a Gendarmerie officer guarding the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade with two knives.
The officer killed the attacker in self-defense and sustained minor injuries.
