SARAJEVO, SEPTEMBER 11 /SRNA/ – Sixty tombstones were destroyed at the Orthodox cemetery in the village of Pečuj, two kilometers from Zenica downtown, Đorđe Radanović, the head of the Committee protecting Serb Rights in FBiH, told SRNA.
Radanović said he was informed about the incident by a local priest, and based on photographs, it is evident that significant physical force was required to carry out the vandalism.
"The problem is that the cemetery is only two kilometers away Zenica downtown, easily accessible to the police, yet no one noticed anything, only Father Maleš did," Radanović said.
He described the act as utterly vile, noting that everything had been in good condition earlier in the spring when people visited the cemetery.
"I don't understand where such hatred toward Orthodoxy comes from or what is behind it," Radanović emphasized, adding that such hatred stems from serious religious indoctrination.
According to him, Orthodox cemeteries are also being vandalized in other municipalities in the FBiH, such as Maglaj, Kakanj, Zavidovići, and Breza.
