TRNOVO, JUNE 3 /SRNA/ - The President of the Istočno Sarajevo City Assembly Boško Jugović pointed out today in Ledići that this once Serb village is now a place of mourning and suffering, but also a warning.
"Even today, 34 years later, we approach this monument with the same pain, the same sense of powerlessness when it comes to the fulfillment of justice because that is the least we can expect.
The fact that we lost 22 civilians in this village, which before the war was predominantly Serbian, speaks volumes for the amount of hatred that was expressed towards them, including the bestial treatment of innocent Serb victims," Jugović told reporters.
Jugović reminded that Milun Tešanović, a one-and-a-half-year-old child was killed in Ledići.
"If a message can be sent from here, then it is very clear - justice must be achieved and the perpetrators of these crimes must be punished, which would be at least a small grain of hope that it is possible to reach reconciliation and satisfy justice in these areas. It is good that we gather here every year and nurture the culture of memory", said Jugović and expressed the hope that this kind of evil will never happen again anywhere, and that injustices will be corrected in the justice system of BiH.
The Mayor of the Municipality of Trnovo Miroslav Bjelica assessed that the suffering of Serb civilians in Ledići is one of the most monstrous crimes in the area of Trnovo, Republika Srpska and the whole of BiH.
He recalled that before killing little Milun, the criminals broke both his arms and legs, as well as massacred the 92-year-old Ikonija Vasić.
Bjelica expressed his belief that this and a similar crime will never happen again, and pointed out that the fact that no one was held accountable for the crime in Ledići is particularly painful.
"I want to tell the public that we will never give up and we will seek justice through the institutions of Republika Srpska and BiH," said Bjelica.
At the memorial in Ledići, in the federal state of Trnovo, a memorial service was held today for 22 innocent Serb victims who died 34 years ago at the hands of criminals belonging to the so-called the Army of BiH, who killed and massacred Serb civilians, including the innocent 18-month-old Milun Tešanović, as well as 15 Serb women.
After the memorial service, there was the laying of wreaths and flowers on the monument to the martyred Serbs from Ledići, as well as speeches by officials and members of the families of the victims.
As in all previous years, this memorial event was organized by the Organization of Families of Captured and Killed Fighters and Missing Civilians in Trnovo.
In June 1992, members of Muslim forces brutally killed Serbian civilians - the oldest victim, Ikonija Vasić, was 92 years old, and the youngest, Milun Tešanović, was only 18 months old. Before the murder, the criminals broke both his legs and arms.
Ten members of the Vasić family, the entire Tešanović family, which had nine members, three members of the Miovčić family, and Savo Kenjić and Slađana Sekulić were killed in a criminal raid by Muslim neighbors.
Ledići had about seventy inhabitants before the war, and old men, women and children were killed. Most of the villagers died on their doorstep, and the few who tried to hide in the surrounding woods were found and killed.
The village, as it usually happened after Muslim armed raids on Serbian settlements, was looted, burned and destroyed to such an extent that almost every trace of the Serbian presence in that area is lost.
