TUZLA, May 15 /SRNA/ - Memorial service was held today at Brčanska Malta in Tuzla, where on May 15, 1992, 54 young men were brutally killed in a Muslim attack on a JNA /Yugoslav People's Army/ convoy during an agreed peaceful withdrawal, candles were lit and roses were laid in honour of the victims.

Family members of the innocent victims, who have waited in vain for 33 years for justice to be served for these brutal murders, gathered at the crime scene, along with surviving members of the Tuzla Convoy and Maja Gačić, representative of the Serb member and chairperson of the BiH Presidency.

The commemoration marking the 33rd anniversary of the Muslim forces' attack on JNA soldiers and the subsequent exodus of 80,000 Serbs from the Tuzla region, was also attended by Radan Ostojić, the head of the Republika Srpska War Veteran Organisation, along with representatives from the local governments of Bijeljina, Ugljevik, and Lopare, and members of the Third Republika Srpska Regiment of the BiH Armed Forces.

Participants arrived in Tuzla on four buses from Republika Srpska, with heavy police presence securing the visit to the site of the crime.

Upon their return to Bijeljina, a memorial service will be held at 12:30 in front of the Memorial-Ossuary for those killed in the Tuzla Convoy at the Pučile Cemetery, where wreaths and flowers will also be laid. Official addresses are scheduled to follow.

On May 15, 1992, Muslim forces attacked a JNA convoy in Tuzla, which based on a previously reached agreement was supposed to peacefully withdraw from the Tuzla barracks.

During the attack, 54 JNA soldiers were killed, 78 wounded, and 44 captured, of whom five were later killed, while the others were tortured and mistreated.
