PALE, OCTOBER 6 /SRNA/ - Sociologist Vladimir Vasić told SRNA that in the general election in BiH, SNSD demonstrated the absolute superiority of an organized system over political chaos, while, in contrast, the devastating collapse of the opposition bloc is primarily the result of its own internal ideological and organizational atrophy.
"This configuration of forces radically reduces the space for being outvoted internally. The focus is thus shifted back to protecting the interests of the entity and the original Dayton Agreement from a position of real institutional power," Vasić said.
He said that the internal consolidation of power and removal of all internal obstacles would have direct foreign-policy implications, primarily by building a significantly stronger and more stable position for Republika Srpska in the BiH Presidency.
Vasić believes that securing an unquestionably legitimate and institutionally backed representative enables Republika Srpska to take a firmer, more assertive and diplomatically more aggressive position in Sarajevo.
He pointed out that the opposition, on the other hand, has once again demonstrated that it does not understand deeper social processes, remaining trapped in a reactive, insular discourse, as it has spent years trying to build its own identity solely through opposition to those in power and moralizing, without offering an alternative vision for society.
"Organizationally impotent, with individual opposition leaders divided by their egos and politically disoriented, they have brought about the collapse of opposition entities under the pressure of their own inability to formulate a platform that mobilizes rather than bleakly depresses," Vasić said.
Vasić said that the recent general election in BiH confirmed the complete entrenchment of the dominant ruling political model and the total annihilation of the opposition’s political base.
He said that the election was not merely a routine counting of votes or a festival of democracy, but rather a demonstration of the profound systemic reformation of the electoral process, the ideological disarray of the opposition and the dangerous, almost terminal emptying of the political space of any long-term vision for society.
"The introduction of new biometric identification technologies, fingerprint scanners and optical scanners was announced as the definitive triumph of transparency. However, the unpreparedness of the BiH Central Election Commission leadership once again became apparent when the scanners went silent. The new technologies helped ensure that only living people voted, but they did not bring about any change; they merely digitally verified the existing balance of power," Vasić said.
He warned that the most symptomatic, most damning and, essentially, most dangerous indicator of this electoral process was the low turnout, as abstainers have officially become by far the largest "political group" in this society.
"While the ruling apparatus is making perfect use of new technologies to close all systemic gaps and strengthen Republika Srpska’s position externally, the biggest potential source of a future crisis remains the frightening fact that a vast, silent and politically apathetic majority has decided to no longer participate in political life in its own country at all," Vasić said.
