BELGRADE, OCTOBER 5 /SRNA/ - The SNSD's landslide victory at all levels in the general election shows that the people of Republika Srpska put the defense of Srpska, national interests and stability first, political analyst Dragomir Anđelković said.
He stressed that citizens had recognized SNSD leader Milorad Dodik as a factor in defending Republika Srpska.
"They considered this to be the most important thing at this point, which is why the SNSD and its candidates performed so well," Anđelković told SRNA.
He pointed out that citizens were aware that any radical move or discontinuity would jeopardize the stability of Republika Srpska.
Anđelković believes that the most important thing is that the elections were held in a completely orderly and peaceful manner, as this demonstrates the political maturity of the people of Republika Srpska and the political actors.
"However high tensions may sometimes run, it is clear that both citizens and politicians have enough awareness not to cross the line that would destabilize Republika Srpska," Anđelković said.
He said the elections were conducted in a manner consistent with what is seen in countries with a much longer democratic tradition.
Speaking about changes in the opposition, where the PSS overtook the SDS for second place in terms of the number of votes won, Anđelković said that citizens were growing tired of politicians they had been seeing for a long time.
"This time, it was part of the old opposition rather than the government that paid the price for that, as the government was seen as a factor that should not be tampered with in these difficult times," Anđelković said.
According to him, a significant change occurred in the election for the Croat member of the BiH Presidency, showing that changes in the United States and the weakening of Euro-Atlantic forces discouraged Bosniaks from once again playing the dirty game of taking the seat intended for Croats.
"That is why the authentic voice of the Croats was heard this time, and their genuine representative is now in the BiH Presidency," Anđelković said.
He stressed that this was very important, because a complex state community such as BiH must not be built on the deception that political Sarajevo had attempted to perpetrate.
"All of this indicates that, if there is reason in European centers of power and if they do not encourage extremism in Sarajevo, BiH could move toward some kind of agreement on normal functioning," Anđelković said.
