CINEMATHEQUE HONORS EUROPEAN HERITAGE DAYS WITH FILM PROGRAM

PALE, SEPTEMBER 28 /SRNA/ - The Republika Srpska Cinematheque will join the observance of European Heritage Days with a film program featuring a screening tonight in Pale of the short documentary "Vladimir Nastić", directed by Snježan Lalović.

The screening at the Pale Cultural Center at 8.00 p.m. will present a film program dedicated to this year's theme, "Heritage at Risk: Revive, Preserve, Redefine," the Republika Srpska Cinematheque said.

Through the film, audiences will have an opportunity to learn about and help preserve part of the cultural memory and creative legacy of prominent Serb poet Vladimir Nastić.

The film Vladimir Nastić was made in 2024 by the Main Library, with support from the Ministry of Civil Affairs in the Council of Ministers.

The screenplay and direction are by Snježan Lalović, while the Republika Srpska Cinematheque provided the necessary archival material.

Lalović said Professor Ranko Popović and writer Marijana Petronić made major contributions to the production of the film, which he described as a form of synthesis between film and television reportage.

"Vladimir Nastić is a symbol of poetry, first and foremost Serbian poetry, and then of Istočno Sarajevo as well," Lalović said.

European Heritage Days, held across Europe since 1991 as part of a joint program of the Council of Europe and the European Commission, are organized with the aim of promoting and preserving cultural and natural heritage.

In Republika Srpska, the event has been marked since 2008, with the foundations for its organization laid by the Republika Srpska Ministry of Education and Culture and the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural, Historical and Natural Heritage.

Vladimir Nastić was born on Februray 26, 1934, in Odžak near Nevesinje. He received his higher education in Sarajevo, graduating from the Pedagogical Academy and the Faculty of Philosophy.

He began his literary career in 1956 with the publication of his first poetry collection, earning recognition in literary circles of the time. He received numerous awards for his work, including the Blažo Šćepanović Award and recognition from the First Literary Commune of Mostar for the best poem at the Šantić Poetry Evenings.

Nastić also made a significant contribution to cultural life, serving as vice president of the Serb Educational and Cultural Society Prosvjeta, as well as vice president and president of the Association of Writers of Republika Srpska.

The lasting significance of his literary legacy was affirmed by the Institute for Textbooks and Teaching Materials through the publication of his Selected Works in four volumes, while his final poetry collection, The Dead Live Here, was published by the Main Library of Istočno Sarajevo.

Nastić died on March 11, 2010, in Istočno Sarajevo.
