WASHINGTON, AUGUST 22 /SRNA/ — Washington must develop a realistic diplomatic roadmap leading Republika Srpska toward independence, the Washington Examiner weekly says.
In an article titled "Let Bosnia Collapse: Why Trump Must Recognize Republika Srpska," author Jose Leva Alvarez argues that BiH's current political system is unsustainable and that US President Donald Trump should radically change US policy toward the Balkans.
He said the Western Balkans cannot sustain multi-ethnic experiments that inevitably collapse under their internal contradictions.
"Instead of worshipping dead institutional stability, Washington must create a realistic diplomatic roadmap that will lead Republika Srpska toward independence," the author writes.
He argues that genuine regional stability requires accepting that ethnic self-determination creates a lasting order, preventing US adversaries from exploiting what he describes as the reckless policies of Western elites.
Alvarez says the Dayton Peace Agreement did not bring peace but merely froze the front lines of 1995, trapping Serbs inside an artificial state.
"Forcing this shotgun marriage to continue guarantees permanent friction. Yet Western policymakers remain blind to the flaws of their own creation," Alvarez writes.
He stresses that the reality of Republika Srpska is being ignored, noting that it was established on January 9, 1992, and accounts for 49 percent of the territory of BiH.
