BRČKO, MARCH 24 /SRNA/ - The Mayor of Brčko District, Siniša Milić, has condemned the burning of the BiH flag on the building of the Brčko Institutions Audit Office, noting it is an act of vandalism and irresponsible act of individuals.
Milić told SRNA he was particularly worried about the hasty reactions of individuals, even representatives of joint institutions who did not even wait for the results of the police investigation.
"I appeal to everyone, especially to the ‘caretakers' outside Brčko District, not to take lightly the qualification that this event has a nationalist background. Without waiting for the outcome of the investigation conducted by the police and the Prosecutor's Office, in this way they are unnecessarily, and above all groundlessly, creating unrest among Brčko residents, in a community that is both politically and security incomparably more stable than the areas they react from," Milić said.
He recalled that the police had announced that two women had been behind this incident whose identity was established and that they were persons of Bosniak nationality previously known to the police.
Milić expressed his belief that the investigative authorities will finish their work very quickly and professionally and inform the public about it in detail.
Brčko police detained today two women suspected of burning the BiH flag at the building of the Audit Office of Brčko District.
The Police state that it is a mother and daughter from Brčko whose initials are M.N. /59/ and S.N. /24/, for whom there is an indisputable suspicion that they committed arson.
"Criminal processing excludes inciting national, religious or other forms of hatred and intolerance as a motive, and the police will send letters to other stakeholders to take actions within their jurisdiction," the statement reads.
