LINTA: GREATEST INJUSTICE IS THAT CRIMES AGAINST SERBS IN PODRAVANJE HAVE REMAINED UNPUNISHED FOR 34 YEARS

BELGRADE, SEPTEMBER 24 /SRNA/ - Miodrag Linta, President of the Alliance of Serbs from the Region, said that the greatest injustice against Serbs in the Podravanje area near Srebrenica is that no one has yet been held accountable for the killing of 32 local residents 34 years ago.

Linta stressed that Serbian families have the right to know who ordered, organised, and carried out the killings of their loved ones and who is responsible for the destruction of their property, according to a statement issued by the Alliance of Serbs from the Region.

He stressed that there can be no lasting peace and reconciliation without equal treatment of all victims and without prosecuting those responsible.

He reminded that on September 24, 1992, Muslim forces killed 32 local residents in an attack on Podravanje and burned all 120 houses, and that, according to Sarajevo’s plan, the same fate was intended for all Serb villages in Podrinje /the Drina Valley/.

“It is particularly painful that more than half of those killed were civilians - women, elderly people, and other local residents who posed no military threat,” Linta stressed.

He stressed that Podravanje must not be forgotten and that preserving the memory of those who were killed is a moral and human duty.

“Their families deserve justice, while future generations deserve to know the truth about the suffering of Serbs in Podrinje. Only truth and justice can serve as the foundation for genuine reconciliation and a life free from hatred and further suffering,” Linta stressed.
