BANJA LUKA, JUNE 4 /SRNA/ – Serb delegate in the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, Radovan Kovačević, stated today that opposition representatives, the minority will from Republika Srpska, went to kneel before the illegitimate Christian Schmidt and the Peace Implementation Council /PIC/, which does not exist in the Dayton Agreement, and there spoke about Republika Srpska in the worst possible way instead of defending the rights of Srpska and their own people.

“Imagine sitting down with Schmidt and not telling him that he is not the High Representative, that he has no right to impose decisions and change laws in BiH, that he is acting against Republika Srpska and the Serb people, that Srpska and the Serb people have their constitutionally guaranteed rights, and that no one , not even he, has the right to attack and strip away those rights. Instead, you go there and beg him to install you instead of those chosen by the Serb people. That is a disgrace,” Kovačević said.

He emphasized that the claims made by Nebojša Vukanović, president of the “For Justice and Order” list, that no one from the international community wants to speak with Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, are untrue.

“Media outlets reported that Vukanović asked /HDZ leader/ Dragan Čović whether he was aware that the international community claims it will no longer speak with the person who allegedly has his backing. Which international community? The US does not say that, Russia does not say that, China does not say that. So the most powerful countries in the world do not say it – they are talking to Dodik and the people from the structure he leads. The three biggest global powers and the three most important members of the UN Security Council are not saying that. Many EU countries, among which there is no consensus, do not say that there should be no dialogue with those chosen by the Serb people and Republika Srpska,” Kovačević told RTRS.

He stressed that the Serb people do not support Vukanović, who received barely 1.5 percent of the vote in the last elections.

“To Vukanović, it doesn’t matter what the people say – for him, the international community decides who should be spoken to from Republika Srpska, not the Serb people and the citizens of Srpska,” Kovačević added.

He believes the opposition is ready to renounce the notion that Serbs are a political people who have the right to make their own political choices and, based on that, their own political decisions.

“If the people aren’t choosing their representatives, who are these people representing? The people vote in elections, and we as elected representatives then advocate for and fight for the interests of our people, not go against the will and interest of the people to spit on our own Republic and the elected representatives of our people,” Kovačević said.
