BELGRADE, JULY 3 /SRNA/ - General Ratko Mladić, who has been receiving palliative care at the UN detention hospital in The Hague for more than two years, has stabilized slightly but remains in poor condition and at a very high risk of death, his son, Darko Mladić, told SRNA.

"He has stabilized a little, and there has been no further deterioration, but he is still very weak and at an extremely high risk of dying. There is really no prospect of recovery. The doctors /in The Hague/ are unable to treat him. The question now is whether anything can still be done to help him after the latest developments. His condition remains poor," Darko Mladić said.

He said that General Mladić is in the terminal stage of his illness and has a very limited life expectancy.

"He has better and worse days. When I visited him with my son, he was able to sit in a wheelchair one day, but not the next," the general's son said.

He said that the report prepared by the Serbian neuropsychiatrist who visited the general in The Hague earlier this week has been completed, but that he cannot comment on its contents until it is published on the website of the Hague Mechanism.

Darko Mladić added that the report will be submitted to the Registry of the Mechanism, which continues to perform its functions as usual despite the expiration of its mandate.

General Ratko Mladić has suffered multiple strokes while in the detention unit in The Hague, as well as kidney disease. He also had a stent implanted in his heart and has been diagnosed with high blood pressure and diabetes. However, he has not received the necessary medical care in The Hague and has not been released for treatment.

He has spent the past two years bedridden in the detention hospital in The Hague, and his last stroke occurred on April 10, when his already serious condition deteriorated dramatically.
